Drexel CHAPMAN

May 27, 1915 ~ July 31, 2003

Mr. Drexel Chapman passed away at his Farmington residence July 31, 2003, at the age of 88 years, 2 months & 4 days. Drexel was born May 27, 1915, in Qulin, MO., to Homer & Kate 'Grey' Chapman. Also preceding were: Sister, Iris Rumburg & Brother, Gordon Jerome Chapman. Drexel graduated from Poplar Bluff High School in 1932, & worked several jobs in the Poplar Bluff area. In 1939, he helped organize the Ozark Border Electric Co-op in Butler & other Bootheel counties. He later enlisted in the Army during WWII & attained the rank of Technical Sergeant & was trained to be a radar operator, stationed in Georgia & Florida. He married Dorothy Olivia 'Hardin' in 1945 & after release from the service moved to Kennett, MO., & started a plumbing business. He later moved to Farmington & had a plumbing business: "Chapman's Heating & Plumbing" until he retired in 1976. Drexel was a long-time member of Memorial United Methodist Church, Farmington & in recent past served as an usher. He was a long-time Rotarian & Past-President & Treasurer of the Farmington Rotary Club. He was also a member of Farmington ELKS Lodge #1765 B.P.O.E. Visitation Friday, 6-8 pm, resuming Saturday at 7 am & funeral Saturday, 2 pm, Aug. 2, 2003, at TAYLOR Funeral Service CHAPEL, with Dr. David Webster officiating. Interment following at Hillview Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Farmington. Memorials to: Memorial United Methodist Church.
