Jessica Sheckles of Irondale, passed away peacefully at home and went to her eternal home in Heaven, while surrounded by the ones who loved her, Thursday, July 27, 2023, at the age of 47.  She was born February 4, 1976, in Farmington, to the late Rev. Charley and Karen (James) Shrum.  Jessica graduated from Malden High School and went on to receive her Bachelor’s Degree in teaching at Southeast Missouri State University and Master’s Degree at Southwest Baptist University.  She taught for 25 years in different districts as well as online courses at Mineral Area College.  Jessica also served as the Bismarck High School Cheer Coach.

Jessica lived a devoted life to serving the Lord.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bismarck, where she led the Women’s Ministry and a member of the Praise Band.  Jessica enjoyed playing the piano, painting, vacationing at the ocean, but most of all spending time with her family and fur babies.

She is survived by her loving husband, Pastor Matthew Sheckles; children, Macy and Levi Sheckles; sister, Mindy Comer and husband Jake; nieces and nephews; Cody (Chandra) Comer and children Carrigan and Crutcher, Emily (Christian) Plassman, Lainey Comer, Sadie Comer and Molly Comer; mother in-law, Lesa (Michael) Bromley; father in-law, Jim (Sherell) Sheckles; sister in-law, Jessica (Tim) Howard and children Mackenzie Metheny, Molly (Tyler) Vaughn; her church and teaching families also survive.  Jessica enjoyed life to the fullest and will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church in Bismarck, Tuesday, August 1, 2023, from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM.  The visitation will resume Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at 8:00 AM until the time of service at 10:00 AM.  Pastor Eric Shrum will be officiating.  Interment will follow at Genevieve Baptist Cemetery in Ste. Genevieve.  Memorials may be directed through First Baptist Church in Bismarck, to be used for the Jessica Sheckles Scholarship Fund.

  3. Candle 2Mrs. Sheckles was my favorite teacher. I came to Bismarck school not having any school at all. They put me in 1st grade half way through the year and she had me for the next 3 years with the looping program. She helped me so much and she will be missed by me and so many others greatly. I know this is gonna be especially heartbreaking for her family at this time. I’m sorry and I hope y’all can find the strength when the time is right. Never forget all the good memories y’all had.
