Alfred Wayne Marler, 82, of Fort Mill, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2026, at MUSC Health Center in Lancaster. Born on May 16, 1944, in Elvins, Missouri, he was the beloved son of the late Clyde Lee and Martha Ellen (McFarland) Marler.

Wayne proudly served his country in the United States Army from July 23, 1962, until July 22, 1965, achieving the rank of Sergeant E-5. His service to his nation is a cherished part of his legacy, one that will not be forgotten.

Wayne's remarkable journey led him to a distinguished career as the Executive Vice President of Wetterau, which later became SuperValu, where he left an indelible mark on the food distribution industry. His leadership and dedication were a testament to his character, reflecting a lifetime of hard work and commitment.

Beyond his professional achievements, Wayne cherished the joys of life with the ones he loved the most, his kids and grandchildren. He created beautiful memories on annual family trips to Myrtle Beach and found joy in ocean cruises that allowed him to explore the wonders of the sea. An avid reader and star-gazer, he often sought solace in the pages of a good book or under the vast sky, taking delight in the mysteries it held.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Jack Marler, Sr. and wife Muriel, Billy Marler, Clyde Marler, Jr. “Dune” and wife Mary, Thomas Marler and wife Shirley, Harold “Gale” and wife Sandra, Olga Walsh and husband Eddie, Barbara Marler in infancy; and one granddaughter, Kelcey Marler.

Wayne is survived by his children, Scott Wayne Marler and wife Paula, Michelle Dawn Nelson and husband Ryan; grandchildren, Shana and Sarah Marler, Alecea and Alec Nelson; four great-grandchildren, Braeden Marler, Christian Bennett, Jr., Jackson Marler and Kylee Marler; one brother, Jasper Marler and wife Linda; several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends also survive.

Visitation will be held at C.Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home in Desloge, Sunday, August 30, 2026, from 12:30 PM until the time of service at 1:30 PM. Interment will follow at St. Francois Memorial Park in Bonne Terre with military honors.
