On Wednesday, February 11, 2026, Archibald Patrick Dowell, affectionately known as Archie, peacefully left this world at the age of 76, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, on Wednesday, May 4, 1949, Archie spent his later years along the shores of Panama City Beach, Florida, where he found solace in the beauty of nature. A talented welder, Archie dedicated his last part of his career days to the World Shipping Container industry, where his skilled hands and strong work ethic earned him the respect of colleagues and friends alike.
Through the seasons of life, Archie reveled in the simple pleasures—fishing and hunting provided him joy and peace, while old Westerns featuring John Wayne and classic episodes of "Gunsmoke" were his favorites during quieter days. He was a devoted family man, whose heart was centered on his cherished sons, Mark and wife Therese of Panama Beach City, Florida, and Archie Dale and his wife Jullieann, of Bonne Terre, Missouri.
Archie was a proud grandfather to seven wonderful grandchildren—Mark Dowell, Jr., Jacob Dowell, Sheena Thompson, Amanda Beranak, Elizabeth Quinn, Steven Dowell, and Scott Dowell—and a doting great-grandfather to fifteen great-grandchildren, whose laughter and innocence brought light to his life. He is also survived by his loving sisters, Lois Webb and Yvonne Leehelan, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who will remember him fondly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Washington and Myrtle Serene (Dixon) Dowell, as well as ten siblings, Leroy Dowell, George Dowell, Alfred Dowell, Oscar Dowell, Eula Mae VanAlestine, Rosie Martin, Ruby Starr, Cecilia Johnson, Pauline Storz and Shirley Wilhelm, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
In reflection of Archie’s life, family and friends will gather to honor his memory at C.Z. Boyer Funeral Home in Bonne Terre, on Monday, March 23, 2026 from 3:00 P.M. until service time 4:00 P.M. Pastor Alan David officiating.
As an expression of love, in lieu of flowers, the family invites contributions to be made in Archie's memory to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, a cause he deeply cared for. Archie leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories that will forever resonate within the hearts of those who knew him. He will be profoundly missed but never forgotten.
