Aurealin "Dean" Moak

Listen to Obituary

Aurealin "Dean" Moak, a cherished father, grandfather, and proud veteran, passed away peacefully at the age of 98, on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at his residence in Bonne Terre, Missouri. Born on Wednesday, March 21, 1928, in Lincoln County, Mississippi, Dean lived a life rich with love, service, and dedication to family and community.

He was married on January 20, 1951, to the love of his life, Evelyn A. (House) Moak for many wonderful years until her passing, and now they are reunited in eternal rest.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Purser and Tiny (Moak) Moak; sister, Marie Williams, Lottie Mae Moak, Inez Tompkins and brother Hughlon Moak; and grandson, Nathanael P. Barger.

A man of remarkable strength and character, Dean served his country for 20 years in the United States Army. He was a proud veteran who completed two tours in both Korea and Vietnam, retiring as a Sergeant First Class (P) E7 on April 30, 1968. Following his military service, he dedicated 15 years to the Coca-Cola industry in shipping and receiving and served as an assistant manager at Longs Big Star Grocery Store for many years.

Dean was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Bonne Terre, where he served as a deacon and past chairman of the ushers. His faith was the foundation of his life, and whenever the church doors were open, Dean was there, embodying the spirit of community and service.

An avid gardener and fisherman, he took immense joy in simple pleasures—whether it was savoring his unique favorite food combination of peanut butter and mayonnaise on hamburgers or enjoying a refreshing Coca-Cola. He found peace in the quiet moments spent on his porch and loved the companionship of his grand fur baby, Bubba. Above all, Dean treasured his grandchildren, showering them with love and affection.

Dean is survived by his beloved children, Steve Moak and wife Janet, Randy Moak and wife Michelle and Debbie Barger, who will carry his legacy forward. He also leaves his cherished 8 grandchildren, Jessica (Ryan) Doyel, Anthony (Tori) Barber, Evan (Faith) Moak, Austin Moak, Jesse Barger, Amanda Barger (Greg Stewart), Nora (Bryan) Henderickson, and Brittany (Chris) Wehner; 16 great grandchildren, KayLynn (Tristian) Peeples, Collin Doyel, Braxton Harvell, Theodore Stotler, Eleanor Wehner, Destiny Hendrickson, Charity, Aron and Erik Henderickson, Wyatt and Emily Stewart, Everlyn Barger, Taylor Cameron and Mackenzie Barger and Hailey Wolczak; 2 great-great grandchildren, Michael “Mikey” Lenz and O’Mari Robinson; one brother-sister in-law Ron Elders and wife Wilma; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a community of friends.

A community member who never met a stranger, Dean’s warmth and kindness touched the lives of many. He was known for his laughter, generosity, and the unwavering love he held for his family and friends. Dean also actively participated on the Bonne Terre Park Board and was a proud member of the Leadington VFW Post # 5741.
