Bernard Francis Brady Jr."Ben", age 90 of St. Charles, Missouri (formerly of Viburnum, Missouri) passed away at his home on Sunday, March 19, 2017. He was born on November 5, 1926 in Atlantic City, New Jersey, a son of Bernard Francis Sr. and Elizabeth Cardine (Conway) Brady. On May 1, 1954 in Viburnum he was united in marriage to Jane Frances "Tancy" Conrad. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife and two sons, Timothy and Patrick Brady.
Those surviving includes his sons & daughters-in-law - Kevin & Toni Brady of Fredericktown and Michael & Kristan Brady of Desoto, Missouri; daughter & son-in-law - Janet & Thomas Yager of Canada; grandchildren - Patrick (Emily) Brady, Colin Brady, Kevin Brady, Anthony Kyle Brady, Rebecca Eck, Dalton Brady, Andrew Yager and Brennan Brady; great-grandchildren - Xavier Brady and Jackson Brady and his cat "Petey".
Ben was a United Stated Navy Veteran during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Philip Benizi Church in Viburnum and the Bonne Terre Knights of Columbus. He had a Bachelor of Science degree from Columbia University in Engineering and played semi-pro hockey to pay his way through college. His main occupation was a metallurgical Engineer for the St. Joe Lead Mine where he was instrumental in the developement of a cyclone dam builder. He also lived in Argentina for eight years while working with St. Joe. He had many interest including sailing, constructing model ships, tennis, golf, theater and the arts, traveling, poetry and education. He spoke German, Spanish and Gaelic and in his elder years volunteered as a tutor for inner city kids in reading. He enjoyed education so much that he was still enrolled in college courses until his passing. Ben enriched the lives of all who met him and will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held in his honor at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at St. Philip Benizi Church in Viburnum. In lieu of flowers or gifts please make a charitable contribution to the Arts & Education Council of St. Louis.
