It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Bernard C. Koester, affectionally known as “Butch” who left this world peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on Wednesday, April 17, 1935, in Bonne Terre, Missouri, Butch spent his early years shaping the values and the life he would later cherish—hard work, dedication, and a profound love for family.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents, Burl Albert and Jesse (Morris) Koester; beloved wife, Ruth Ann (Flint) Koester; son Burl L. Koester; two brothers, Gene and Lynn Koester.
Butch was a revered laborer for the City Utilities of Bonne Terre, where he dedicated 38 years of his life before retiring. His commitment to serving the community and his coworkers exemplified his caring nature and strong work ethic. As a devout member of the Second Baptist Church of East Bonne Terre, Butch found solace and purpose in his faith, forming lasting bonds with fellow congregants.
A long-time resident of Bonne Terre, Butch cherished the simplicity of life. In his earlier years, you could often find him by the beautiful Bonne Terre pond, sharing tales and laughter with his dearest friends, engaging in his passions for fishing and hunting. However, the greatest joy in his life was his family.
He is survived by his beloved son, Chuck Koester, and wife Cindy, and his cherished granddaughter, Brooke Koester. The love he had for them was boundless, and he took pride in every moment spent together. Butch also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Reflecting on the legacy Butch leaves behind—a legacy of hard work, unwavering faith, and deep familial love—his warmth and spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
Visitation will be held for Butch at C.Z. Boyer Funeral Home in Bonne Terre, on Friday, August 28, 2026, from 12:00 PM until service time of 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Randy Murphy officiating. Following the service Butch will be laid to rest next to his loving wife Ruth Ann at Marvin Chapel Cemetery, in Bonne Terre.
In this difficult time, may we draw comfort from the wonderful life Butch led and the lasting impact he had on our community and loved ones.
