Listen to Obituary
Betty Jean Mason of Ironton, Missouri passed away September 19, 2023 at The Baptist Home at the age of 94 years. She was born September 28, 1928 in Leachville, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Estle Anderson and Elsie Mae (Trobaugh) Fish. On November 20, 1948 she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Roy Edwin Mason. After seventy-three years of marriage he preceded her in death on June 29, 2022. They were residents of The Baptist Home. Betty and Roy were the parents of three children: Marilyn Thomas (Rank) of Minden, Louisiana, Ronnie Mason (Shelli) of Wright City, Missouri, and Larry Mason (Thanh) od Indianapolis, Indiana, who preceded them in death. Other survivors include seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Betty was preceded in death by all of her siblings: William Fish, Winford Fish, Leona Garner and Doris Inman. Betty was a long-time member (fifty plus years) of the First Baptist Church in Wright City, Missouri. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday School from children’s classes to senior adults, and worked VBS every year. She and Roy volunteered for Meals on Wheels and grew to love the people they met through the years. She was a homemaker and a devoted wife who did something with everything Roy brought from the garden. Her children jokingly referred to their home as a canning factory. She canned beets, tomatoes, okra, green beans, squash, pickles, blackberries, peaches, and her mom’s chow chow recipe, in large quantities and of course in MASON jars. What she couldn’t can, she froze. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Baptist Home Chapel with Pastor Jim Wills officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will be in The Baptist Home Cemetery next to Roy. Memorials may be made to the Baptist Home.
