It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Beverly Sue Burgess, who left this world peacefully on Friday, October 2, 2026, at the age of 85. Born on Friday, June 20, 1941, in Leadwood, to the late Walter and Marie (Gilliam) Banks.
Beverly was a proud graduate of the Desloge High School Class of 1959. She married her soulmate, Bob Burgess, on September 30, 1961 at the Desloge Free Will Baptist Church. They shared 60 wonderful years together until his passing on March 1, 2022. Their love served as an example of devotion to all who knew them.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bob Burgess, siblings, Walter “Sonny” Banks and wife Dottie, Billy Banks, Rick Banks, and Nate Rawlings.
For 25 years, Beverly dedicated herself to her work as a checker at Kroger in Leadington, where her friendly smile and compassionate nature made her a cherished member of the community. A woman of strong convictions and active civic engagement, she served for several years as the secretary for the Mineral Area Labor Legislative Club and was a dedicated member of the St. Francois County Democratic Club. Furthermore, Beverly and Bob both served the community as elected committee members of the St. Francois County Democratic Central Committee and proudly represented their area as Missouri Delegates. Her commitment to service extended deeply into her faith, attending Gospel Light Free Will Baptist Church in Bonne Terre, where she found solace and connection.
Beverly’s life was enriched by her love for her four children: Bobby Burgess, Becky Unger and husband Mark, Brad Burgess and wife Altha, and Bart Burgess and wife Kathy. She also leaves behind eleven grandchildren: Rachel Burgess, Bradley (Brittanie) Burgess, Matthew Burgess, Benjamin (Leticia) Unger, Bailey (Nick) Fields, Sarah Burgess, Anne Marie Unger, Mykah, step-grandson Heath Rawlins, Kourtney Rawlins, and Niles Heggie; 13 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Wanda (Danny) Compton, Ronnie (Grace) Banks and Alvin Banks; sisters-in-law, Kathy and Jan Banks along with several nieces, nephews, family and friends.
In her free time, Beverly loved tending to her beautiful flower garden and crocheting, often crafting thoughtful gifts for her family and friends. Her kind heart and nurturing spirit will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Memorial visitation will be held at Gospel Light Free Will Baptist Church in Bonne Terre on Friday, October 9, 2026, from 3:00 PM until Celebration of Life service at 5:00 PM with Rev. Larry Allison to officiate. Memorial donations in Beverly’s memory can be made to Park Hills Senior Center 224 West Main St. Park Hills, MO. 63601
Special thanks to Heart and Soul Hospice for their care in Beverly’s last days.
