Catherine Christine Roling Nenninger peacefully passed away on March 12, 2023, at the age of 102. Born in Iowa, she grew up with two sisters, Mary and Teresa, and her brother Herman.
In her early 20s, she bought a one-way train ticket to Chicago to find better opportunities. While living at the Rita Club, apartments on Dearborn for working young women, she met her best friend Sophie Budz. Catherine went to Northwestern University to be a bookkeeper, and she balanced her checking account into her 90s.
After World War II, Catherine met and married Albert Nenninger. They welcomed four children: Ann, John, Louise, and William. She was blessed with seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her parents, Helen Weis Roling and Herman Roling and her siblings, Herman Bernard Roling, Mary Helen Kuhl, and Teresa Imelda Wisler preceded her in death. She was preceded in death by her best friend, Sophie, sister-in-law, Mary Nolan Roling, and her granddaughter, Keavy.
She loved reading, The Price is Right, Fig Newtons, black licorice, dark chocolate, Jack Daniel’s whiskey, and a good cup of coffee. She was famous (well, at least in the family) for her homemade dinner yeast rolls and chocolate chip cookies. She was known to play a fierce hand of Euchre.
Catherine decided to donate her body to the Saint Louis University School of Medicine Center for Anatomical Science and Education. A memorial mass celebrating her life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Farmington Presbyterian Manor Good Samaritan Fund or Heart and Soul Hospice. Arrangements are under the direction of C.Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home – Taylor Chapel in Farmington.
