Cleo Ray Young

Cleo “Ray” Young, 95, of Bonne Terre, passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2023. He was born Saturday, February 4, 1928 to the late Winfred and Elsie (Frances) Young. Ray was also preceded in death by his step-father Joseph Boyer; sisters, Ruth Helen Young, Dorothy Stegall, Jessie Stucker, Golda Burcham, Joanne Nash; brothers, Billy Carl Young and Leo Fay Young.

Ray proudly served his country in the United States Navy, where he was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal. He was a faithful member of the Gospel Light Free Will Baptist Church in Bonne Terre, as well as a member of the Mineral Area Wood Carvers Association. In his spare time, he enjoyed, fishing, carving unique and custom sculptures, along with all types of animals. Most of all he loved spending time with his family.

Ray is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Jean (Pettus) Young; children, Debbie Moser-Gross, Patti Vaught-Washburn and Steve R. Young; grandchildren Jason (Michelle) Moser, Gabe (Stephanie) Moser, John (Amanda) Gross, Danny (Misty) Vaught, Joey Vaught and Jerrid Young; great-grandchildren, Ella Moser, Avery Moser, Braxton Gross, Stryker Moser, Jordon Vaught, Rilie Vaught, Aiden Vaught, McKenzee Headrick, Samantha Dodson, along with many special relatives and friends. Ray will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be held Monday, April 10, 2023 at 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Visitation will resume Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 10:00 AM until funeral service time of 11:00 AM at the Gospel Light Free Will Baptist Church in Bonne Terre with Pastor Larry Allison officiating. Interment will follow at Bonne Terre Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of C.Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home Bonne Terre, MO.
