Walter Dale Cook

Walter Dale Cook, also known as "Shorty", of Deepwater Missouri, passed away on October 17, 2026. Dale was born on September 19, 1944, to Walter E. Cook and Sula Mae (Gunn) Cook of Desloge.

He was married to Linda Sue Dalton for over 53 years. Dale worked for 20 years at St. Joe Lead Company. He later retired from Farmington Correctional Center after 20 + years. Dale also served in the United States Army for four years, primarily being stationed in South Korea.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Linda, his sister Dorothy Woods, and his brother Ronald Cook.

Survivors include his son, Brian Cook, of Great Bend Kansas and his daughter, Angela Heffern, of Springfield Missouri; grandchildren, Alexander Heffern and Elizabeth Heffern of Springfield Missouri; Brother-in-law, Gene Woods of Bonne Terre Missouri and sister-in-law, Willa Jean Cook of Ormond Beach Florida: and many nieces and nephews.

Dale will be missed by those who knew him and remembered for his ability for starting a conversation with anyone. He loved a good western with a cold beer in hand. Walter Dale Cook was known as "Shorty" to his family and friends, but at 6 foot 2 inches he was usually one of the tallest men in the room.

The service will be held at C. Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home in Desloge on Friday, October 23, 2026, from 11:00 AM until service time of 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at St. Francois Memorial Park in Bonne Terre.
