Dave "Cobby" Caldwell

Dave “Cobby” Caldwell, 83, of Desloge, formerly of Elvins, passed away peacefully Monday, February 6, 2023, at Camelot Nursing Center in Farmington.  He was born Tuesday, June 30, 1939, in Elvins, to the late Raymond George “Cobby”s and Esther Emma (Rinke) Caldwell.

Dave is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Rae Ann (Highley) Caldwell; children, Michael Shawn Caldwell and wife Laura, Misty Michelle (Bud Nicholson) Caldwell and Christopher Chey Caldwell; grandson, Connor (fiancé, Katelynn Daley) Caldwell; special brother in-law and sister in-law, Evan and Colleen Williams; along with other friends and family.

He graduated from Esther High School, class of 1957.  Dave attended Flat River Junior College and went on to graduate from the Louisville Kentucky College of Mortuary Science in 1961.  He also served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

Dave was a licensed funeral director and embalmer for 50 years.  He owned and operated Caldwell Funeral Home in Flat River / Park Hills, Elvins, Bismarck and Cantwell.  He was honored and privileged to serve the many respectable families in the area.  He was past president of the Flat River Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club and a member of the advisory board of the Flat River First Bank and later the Bank of The Leadbelt.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman, but enjoyed trips with his family, especially to Florida.  In his spare time, Dave would relax by planting flowers, shrubs or feeding the squirrels and birds.

A private burial was held under the direction of C.Z. Boyer and Son Caldwell Chapel.  Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Shriners Hospital for Children.
