It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Dickerson, known to many as Dave, who left us peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, May 15, 2026, at the age of 74. Born on Monday, February 18, 1952, in Bonne Terre to the late John and Betty (Overstreet) Dickerson. Dave devoted his life to his family and community.
In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by a brother, John Dickerson, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Lori Dickerson; brother-in-law, Michael Martin; sisters-in-law, Cecelia Eaton and Cynthia Parker; mother and father-in-law Louise and Gene Selvidge.
He is survived by his loving wife, Connie (Selvidge) Dickerson, and his cherished children: David Dickerson and companion Amanda Moore, Linda (Kevin) Dickerson-Bell, Crystal (Chuck) Heady-Fenwick, Cheryl (Ricky) Lightfoot and Nathan Crepps; bonus son, Josh Irvin; 15 grandchildren, Monica, Cody, Jerron, Haleigh, Carson, Jake, Chase, Carter, Landon, Peyton, Trenton, Braylyn, Kellen, Maddan, Lincoln; bonus grandson, Chris; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Virginia Sue (Jeff) Stegall, Carol (Lynn) Hyatt and Patricia Dickerson; nephew, Josh; nieces, Melissa, Samantha, Cassie, Mikayla, Ania, Jersie and Kyleigh; special nephew, Terry Leach; sister-in-law, Cathy Martin along with other family and special friends.
A distinguished member of law enforcement, Dave dedicated his career to serving and protecting others. He began his journey at a young age and continued in law enforcement serving many surrounding police departments, including, Leadington, Park Hills, Esther, Elvin’s, Flat River, Leadwood, Iron Mountain Lake, St. Francois County Sheriff’s Department, Poplar Bluff, Piedmont and Bismarck. He served these communities with integrity and dedication, ultimately retiring after serving as the Chief of Police for the City of Bismarck for more than 20 years. Throughout his career, Dave was known for his calm demeanor and pleasant nature, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and citizens alike.
Beyond his professional life, Dave was a man of simple joys, happiest when spending time with his family. He treasured every moment spent at family events, cheering on his children and grandchildren. Dave had a particular passion for automobiles, often found meticulously caring for his own. He enjoyed a clean vehicle and would often say “if you clean the car and not the tires, then it’s still not clean”. After retiring, He enjoyed detailing vehicles to pass the time and to make them look their best. He also enjoyed helping out his wife Connie at her work, always fixing and cleaning things to lend a hand. Dave was a devoted member of the Baptist faith, finding strength and guidance through his spirituality, which enriched the lives of those around him.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 18, 2026, at C. Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home in Desloge from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at the funeral home from 9:00 AM until service time of 11:00 AM with Pastor Randy Murphy officiating. Burial to follow at St. Francois Memorial Park in Bonne Terre. Memorials if desired in Dave’s memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
