David Lee Sherrill

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of David Lee Sherrill, age 73, who departed this life on Friday, June 13, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Friday, November 16, 1951, to the late Alfred Columbus and Edna Mae (Kennon) Sherrill. David was a cherished husband, father, grandpa, brother and friend, and member of the community, known for his unwavering kindness and compassion.

In addition to David’s parents, he is preceded in death by his precious granddaughter, Mikayla Ann Sherrill; sister, Anna Jeanne Blackwell; brother, Gary Wayne Sherrill. 

David dedicated his life to serving others, first as a loyal employee of (Western Electric/AT&T/Lucent,) where he devoted 30 years of his career. His work ethic and commitment to excellence were evident throughout his tenure. After retiring, he embraced a new chapter as a shuttle driver for Auffenberg Automotive Dealership, where he was affectionately known as "Driver Dave," leaving a lasting impression on all who crossed his path.

 As a Christian, David lived his life guided by his faith in our Lord Jesus Christ which inspired him to always put others first and spread love and kindness. A passionate outdoorsman, he found joy in hunting and fishing, and he delighted in traveling to Florida’s shores and the majestic landscapes all across our beautiful country. History was a subject close to his heart, and he was always eager to share his knowledge and stories with those around him.

 Music was another of David’s great loves; he was an accomplished guitarist who shared his talent with several bands, including "Live Bait," "Velvet Pillow," "Wilkinson Brothers," and "AUSGANG." He cherished the moments spent with his close friends, creating melodies that resonated with the spirit of camaraderie and joy.

David is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Judy (Swindle) Sherrill; cherished children, Matthew David Sherrill and wife Sharon, Andrew David Sherrill, Paul David Sherrill and wife Sara; adored grandchildren, Michael David Sherrill and wife Summer, Lilian Marie Sherrill, Cole Lewis Sellers and wife Kattrina, Chase Logan Sellars, Allison Nicole Sellers; sister, Donna Mae Watkins and husband Russell Dwayne; sisters-in-law, Marianna Lynn Sherrill, Tammie Lynn Deschler and husband James; brother-in-law, Don Michael Swindle and wife Paulette along with loving nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at C. Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home in Desloge. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Thursday, June 19, 2025, from 9:00 AM until service time of 11:00 AM. With Pastor Rick Posey officiating. Burial to follow at Saint Francois Memorial Park in Bonne Terre. In David’s memory, memorials can be made to Mikayla Ann Sherrill Memorial Scholarship, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children in St. Louis or Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
