Doris Jean Powell, 79, of Farmington passed away April 29, 2026 at Barnes Jewish Hospital. She was born December 17, 1946 in Esther, MO to the late Charles Leslie and Dora Mae (Wilson) Shunk. She was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Farmington, where she found great joy in caring for the children in the nursery, sharing her warmth and gentle spirit with each one. She had a love for gardening and took pride in nurturing her plants, just as she did those around her. She also enjoyed bringing family together over meals made with love. Above all, she cherished the time spent with her family, creating lasting memories filled with laughter, comfort, and unwavering love.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Edna Harbison; and brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Dixie Shunk.

Doris is survived by her dear husband of 61 years, Edward Wayne Powell; two daughters, Cathy (James) Day and Tania Smith; five grandchildren, Bradley Day, David (Zoe) Day, Daniel (Hollie) Day, Dustin Smith, Caitlyn Smith; one great-granddaughter, Charlotte Day; two sisters, Violet (Tom) Pinkston and Ruth (Terry) Effran. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and friends.

A private graveside inurnment will be held at Three Rivers Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of C.Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home -Taylor Chapel in Farmington.
