Doris Snow (Johnson) Moon, 101, of Bonne Terre died November 12, 2011, at St. Lukes Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. After graduating from Farmington High School at age 17, she began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse with students even older than herself. Slowly she worked to receive her Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington University in St. Louis, and eventually earned her Master of Education degree from the University of Missouri - Columbia. She retired after 46 years of teaching. Other schools where she taught included the Koester, Rouggly, and Lambeth Schools, Desloge and North County Schools. Doris also taught Sunday School classes at Marvin Chapel United Methodist Church for many years. In addition to teaching she also helped out her husband Willie on the family dairy farm with the chores and milking cows by hand early in the morning and late at night for many years until they were able to buy a milking machine. Born January 31. 1910, in Farmington, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence Riley and Addie Snow (White) Johnson.She is survived by two daughters, Joyce (and Jess) Eaton of Farmington, and Betty (and Robert ) Claywell of St. Louis; three grandchildren, Kristofer Claywell, Justin (and Jennifer) Claywell, and Josh Eaton (and fiance Heather); four great-grandchildren, Tyler and Nathan Claywell, Christopher Wallen, and Alexandria Eaton; one sister-in-law Golda Moon-Kilmer of Florida, and many nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by: Husband, William L. Moon; brother, Harry L. Johnson; and five sisters, Genevieve Weiss, Evelyn Robinson, Muriel Johnson, Gertrude Cooper and Naomi Pothetos.Visitation will be 5-8 p.m., Tuesday, November 15, 2011, at C.Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home in Bonne Terre. Visitation will resume 9 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 16, 2011, at C.Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Bryan Schaefer officiating. Interment will be at Hillview Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Farmington, Mo.
