Edward Russell Nelson Sr.

Edward “Eddie” Nelson, age 90, passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at Mercy South Hospital. He was born on Monday, February 6, 1933, in St. Louis, Missouri, to the late James and Colletta (Wolsey) Nelson. Eddie served his country honorably in the United States Army and was a proud member of the Blackwell Masonic Lodge #535 in Blackwell, Missouri.

Eddie will be remembered for his love of spending time with his grandchildren, deer hunting and his unwavering dedication to his family. His warm smile and infectious laughter will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Vivian A. (Wideman) Nelson; his children, Tammy Barnett, Bill Nelson (Lynda), Jim Nelson, Sheree Faenger, and Butch Nelson (Blue Sidebottom); grandchildren, Danielle Elliott, Jessica (Jason) Buxton, Billy (Alisha) Nelson, Nathan (Emily) Faenger, Nora Faenger, Tyler Nelson, Dalton Nelson, Hannah Nelson, Kevin Favier, Keith Favier, Eli Neilson, and David Litton; his siblings, Jim Nelson and Corene Randolph; along with several cherished nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 28, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at C.Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home in Bonne Terre with a Masonic Service at 7 pm. Inurnment ceremony will take place on Monday, January 29, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, where Eddie will be laid to rest with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to either the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Shriner’s Children Research Hospital or Camp Hope in Eddie’s name.
