Erma Jean Friedel, a beloved mother, grandmother and sister passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at the age of 93. She was born on Friday, March 17, 1933, in Bonne Terre, Missouri, and spent her life devoted to her family and home. She was a member of St Joseph Catholic Church in Bonne Terre.
Erma was preceded in death by her parents, Ewell C. and Clara (Heberlie) Patt; husband Lee Henry Friedel, two brothers, Leroy Patt, Clifford “Googey” Patt; three sisters, Lucille Chappell, Helen Griffin, and Juanita Hunt.
Erma was a devoted housewife who embraced her role with love and grace. Her passion for life was reflected in her avid gardening; her garden was a vibrant display of blooms that brought joy to all who visited. Known for her incredible culinary skills, Erma was a tremendous cook whose family gatherings were filled with warmth, laughter, and the irresistible aroma of home-cooked meals.
She treasured her family, finding joy in the companionship of her sons. Erma's heart was made fuller by the love of her grandchildren, and she cherished every moment when spent with them, particularly during family reunions which she helped create with such loving detail.
Erma was not only a devoted family member but also a friend to many; her kind spirit and welcoming nature meant that anyone who crossed her path felt like they had gained a friend. Her legacy of kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
She is survived by her four loving sons, Richard Friedel, Monty Friedel and wife Linda, Steven Friedel and wife Jody, and Mark Friedel and wife Rebecca; three cherished grandchildren, Page Edelen and husband Adam, Adam Friedel, and Tyler Friedel; three adored great-grandchildren, David, Ella and Ava Edelen; beloved brother Raymond Patt and his wife Norma; two dear sisters, Hilda Tullock and Monica Shinneborger; as well many nieces and nephews and countless extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
Visitation for Erma will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at C.Z. Boyer Funeral Home in Bonne Terre from 11:00 AM until service of 1:00 PM with Reverend Vincent Nyman officiating. Followed by burial at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Bonne Terre, where she and her husband Lee will be laid to rest.
