It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Gale Veronica Sopko, who left this world on Friday, October 19, 2025, at the age of 71. Born on Thursday, November 19, 1953, in New Jersey to the late Paul and Marian (Wyckoff) Sopko. Gale made her home in Bonne Terre, Missouri, where her spirit brightened the lives of all who knew her. She was a loving daughter and friend to many.
Gale’s favorite color was blue, and she brought that same calm and brightness into the lives of everyone who knew her. She loved sharing stories about her beloved Dalmatian, a faithful companion who brought her endless joy.
Gale never passed up a good cup of coffee — though she always said the cup was never quite big enough. She was a gentle soul with a spunky, firecracker personality that made her truly unforgettable.
She found joy in watching hummingbirds and butterflies flutter outside her window, often taking comfort in those quiet moments. Originally from New Jersey, Gale was deeply proud of her heritage. She loved to tell the staff at St. Joe Manor, that if they ever had the chance to visit Coney Island, they should see it at night — one of her fondest memories.
Gale was truly blessed to have the wonderful staff at St. Joe Manor, who cared for her as if she were family. They shared their lives, children, and grandchildren with her, and she delighted in watching them grow.
Her favorite song was “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’.” It was not unusual to hear her singing it down the hall, her voice full of life, joy, and spirit.
Gale will be remembered for her warmth, wit, and the love she gave so freely to everyone around her.
Per Gale’s wishes, she will have a private burial in New Jersey, where she will be laid to rest with her parents.
Arrangements are under the direction of C.Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home in Bonne Terre.
