Howard G. “Crockey” Peterson, 86, of Farmington, Missouri and Satellite Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
A man of boundless energy, generosity, and enthusiasm for life, Crockey leaves behind a legacy defined by his deep devotion to family, enduring friendships, entrepreneurial spirit, and love of adventure. He was widely respected for his philanthropic nature and his involvement in several successful business ventures, including Pepsi-Cola Bottling, Flat River Building Center, and Crockey’s Restaurant in Branson, Missouri.
Born September 23, 1939, in Flat River, Missouri, he was the cherished son of Harry and Ethel Peterson. Throughout his life, Crockey was a devoted husband, proud father and grandfather, treasured great-grandfather, and loyal friend. His warmth, humor, and unwavering support for those he loved will be remembered always.
Crockey graduated from Kemper Military Academy and later served in the United States Army Reserves. Crockey shared 68 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Kathryn McLane Peterson. Together they built a strong and loving family and created a lifetime of memories through travel, shared experiences, and time spent together.
Crockey embraced life fully and joyfully. He had a lifelong passion for fast cars, motorcycles, and motorsports, purchasing his first Harley-Davidson at just 12 years old. He later enjoyed racing stock cars, go-karts, Formula V, and Indy cars. He especially treasured hunting trips with his sons and gatherings filled with laughter among family and friends. Known for his quick wit, warm smile, and generous heart, he was always present for his children and anyone in need of encouragement or support.
He was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church and the Elks Lodge of Farmington.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Ethel Peterson; his sister, Evangeline Taylor; his brother, H.L. Peterson; and his son, A.J. Peterson.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathryn; his son Chip Peterson and wife Debbie; his daughter Beth DeStefano and husband Paul, of Florida; his grandchildren Brian Holme; Katelyn Wiles and husband Derek; Kristen Waggoner and husband Dyllan; Harry Peterson and wife Alisha; Parks Peterson and wife Paige; Jocelyn Peterson; Rachel Peterson and partner Zach Rhodes; Michael DeStefano and wife Jennifer; and Diane DeStefano Peterson and husband Jonathan; as well as 20 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Crockey’s life was marked by generosity, laughter, determination, and a genuine love for people. His spirit will live on in the many lives he touched and in the memories shared by those who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held at the C.Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home – Taylor Chapel in Farmington on Sunday, March 15, 2026 from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to United Way, Memorial United Methodist Church, or Serenity Hospice.
