He was born March 24, 1926, in Ironton, Missouri the son of Theodore and Ollie (Huff) Vickery. Jack attended Ironton schools until age 15 when his family moved to St. Louis. He graduated in 1943 from Roosevelt High School. Jack went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army and Air Force. He served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam earning numerous commendations and medals, including a Bronze star. He retired with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant after serving twenty-eight years for our country. After retiring from the Air Force, Jack and Janet moved back to Ironton to be closer to family. He then went to work in a management position for Brown Shoe Company. Jack has served as a Deacon of the First Baptist Church in Ironton where he was a member since 1980. He has taught Sunday School for many years – both a men’s class and most recently a couple’s class. For the past 27 years, he published the Silver Eagles Flyer read by nearly 150 people each month. The Flyer’s devotions, jokes, games, and recipes helped encourage and bring a smile to everyone’s face who read the newsletter. Jack was very organized and loved technology. He was quite tech savvy and enjoyed working daily in his home office on the most updated computers and technology. He also enjoyed crime dramas and loved Star Trek. On June 21, 1947, Jack was united in marriage to Beulah “Janet” Honeycutt. To this union two children were born: Sharon Kay Cassidy (Michael) of Twin Lake, Michigan, and Jack “Dennis” Vickery (Collette) of Shiloh, Illinois. Five grandchildren survive from this family: Sean Vickery, Jason Whitehouse, Matthew Vickery, Christopher Harmon, and Steven Harmon. His grandson, Mark Harmon preceded him in death. Jack cared for Janet when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. His loving and attentive care for her allowed her to remain in their home as long as possible. Janet passed away January 10, 2010. On June 13, 2015, he was united in marriage to Carol Marie (Warren) Crites. With this marriage he gained two bonus children: Kathryn Ver Straate (Marc) of Matthews, North Carolina, and Barrett Mitchell (Jamie) of Desloge, Missouri.
