James Obie Hartwick of Ironton, Missouri passed away on February 15, 2025. He was born In Ironton, Missouri on April 6, 1948 to Henry Edward Hartwick and Lillian (Inman) Hartwick. He was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church and was baptized on May 21, 1967. He worked at Arcadia Valley Farms as a horse trainer for August Muckler for serval years and then moved on to Brown Shoe Company until it closed. James has three children: Heather Hartwick and Robert Chappell of Boss, Missouri, Jami Chappell and Buddy of Arcadia, Missouri, and Cortni Pryor of Cherryville, Missouri. He has nine grandchildren: Hannah, Jerrica, and Dakota Givens; Devin, Josiph, and Arial Chappell; Daylan, Elivia, and Cordal Pryor. James was great grandfather to seven: Hannah’s children: Adelynn Goodwin, Aria Payne, Abel Payne; Dakota’s children: Oliver and Theodore Givens; Devin’s son: Samuel Chappell; and Josiph’s child: Piper Chappell. James is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Curtis Hartwick and wife, Diane of Ironton, Missouri, Theresa Rennie of Graniteville, Missouri, Patricia and David Glaskey from Belleview, Missouri, Paul Hartwick of Ironton, Missouri, Paula Sue Pitts of Ironton, Missouri, and Tony Hartwick of Ironton, Missouri. Two sisters- in-law: Theresa Hartwick and Carla Hartwick of Ironton, Missouri and one brother-in-law: Johny McCarron of Leadwood, Missouri. James was preceded in death by his parents and two infant children, his brother, Henry Lee Hartwick, sister, June “Sis” and brother-in-law, Jim Caby, sister, Janice McCarron, and brother, Joe Hartwick. James liked to fish, hunt and ride horses and he loved to visit and play with his grandkids; Devin, Josiph, Arial and great grandkids, Piper and Samuel. They were his joy, and he would come to Buddy and Jami’s house. He loved it when Buddy would cook on the old wood stove and Arial and Piper would make homemade biscuits. Graveside services will be held later this summer when his grandchildren are home from military service for a visit. Definite date and time will be posted when it becomes available.
