James " Jim" Spencer Courtney, Jr.

James “Jim” Spencer Courtney Jr. age 80, of Park Hills, MO, passed away Sunday, August 8, 2021. Jim was born on Monday, March 17, 1941 at home in Venice, IL to James Spencer Courtney Sr. and Cleona Mae (Yates) Courtney.

Jim married Donna Faye Metzger on August 16, 1963 and divorced in 1984.

 He lived in Troy, IL, Edwardsville, IL and Bonne Terre, MO at different times of his life.

Jim was an avid reader and enjoyed learning all things hands on. He was also very fond of fishing and the beauty of nature, whether it be flowers or wildlife.

Jim was a graduate of Triad High School in 1959. He worked for Laclede Steel from 1959-1964, GM&O Railroad in STL, MO from 1964-1967, W & W Refrigeration from 1967-1972 and then went on to proudly own his own business, Jim’s Heating, Cooling, Refrigeration & Electrical for 45 years.

Jim looked forward to meeting up with his good friend, Richard McClure, for coffee, breakfast or just talking and catching up on life. Jim & Richard shared a special friendship like a father/son duo. Jim took pride in teaching Richard all about heating, cooling, refrigeration & electrical work.

Jim is survived by his loving children; Tammy Jo (William “Bill”) Reyman, Edwardsville, IL. and Kelly Jean (Butch) Courtney-Berdick, Sebring, Fl.; two grandchildren, Courtney Anna Reyman, The Waters at Pike Road, AL, & Cody James Reyman, Edwardsville, IL; two sisters, Wanda Fay (Dave) Cawvey of Fairview Heights, IL & Brenda Jewel Wilburn of Collinsville, IL; three brothers, George Larance (Lockie) Courtney of MO, Allan Ray (Karla) Courtney of Troy, IL and Benjamin David Courtney of Palmer, TN., along with many many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers; Thomas Jerry Courtney (2016), William Harold Courtney (2019), Ronald Lynn Courtney (2021); One sister, Virginia Dell Ostresh (2021) and a nephew Kevin Robert Brendel (2005).

The family of Jim would like to thank Country Meadows Nursing & Rehab along with Preferred Hospice for the wonderful care they provided.

Per Jim’s wishes, arrangements for cremation are under the direction of CZ Boyer & Son Funeral Home in Bonne Terre, MO, and there will be no visitation. A Celebration Dinner will be held at a later date and information will be provided at that time.
