James Harry Phelps Sr. of Fredericktown, Missouri passed away August 15, 2020 at St. Francois Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He was born August 31, 1937 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Harry William and Evangeline (Wilson) Phelps. On December 21, 1968 he was united in marriage to Sherian (Lloyd) Phelps, who survives. To this union four sons were born: Harry William Phelps II of Granite City, Illinois, James Harry Phelps Jr. of Park Hills, Missouri, Thomas Jay Phelps (Diane Post) of Park Hills, Missouri, and Gerald Alan Phelps (Heather) who preceded him in death. Jim had seven grandchildren whom he adored: Jacob, Cole, Kinsey, Brooke, Jaidyn, Lilly, and Boston. Jim proudly served our country in the United States Navy for eight years. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. He retired from the Missouri Department of Corrections after seventeen years of service. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, watching softball and baseball, gardening and he read a lot. He particularly loved spending time with his grandchildren and picking on them.
