Jean Brenon

With joyful remembrance, we announce the passing of Jean Brenon, who danced his way into the hearts of many and into eternal rest on May 30, 2025, at Mercy South in St. Louis. Born on July 30, 1937, in Bonne Terre, Jean was a beloved son of the late John and Gertrude (Peppers) Brenon. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, embodying dedication and service throughout his life.

For over 35 years, Jean forged a remarkable career in sales with Lorillard Tobacco Company. His dedication and enthusiasm for his work not only contributed to his professional success but also endeared him to countless colleagues and friends. After his retirement, Jean continued to share his talents with Gatorade and Cheyenne Tobacco, proving that his love for what he did never faded. He approached every opportunity with a spirited attitude, leaving a lasting imprint on the companies and individuals he encountered along the way.

A cherished member of the community, Jean's spirit shone brightly as a lifelong member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Bonne Terre and as a proud member of Samaritan Lodge #424, where he received his 60-year pin just last year. His commitment to service extended to education as well; he spent seven years on the North County School Board, helping to shape the futures of countless students, and he played an instrumental role in founding the Jaycees Bonne Terre Baseball Association.

Jean was known as the life of the party, his infectious laughter and captivating storytelling leaving lasting impressions on everyone he met. He had a sweet tooth for desserts, a deep love for music—especially the Beach Boys and Elvis—and a zest for dancing that earned him the affectionate moniker, “Jean Jean the Dancing Machine.” Most importantly, he cherished the joy of being a grandfather, taking immense pride in his grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Leon Brenon and one brother in-law, Robert “Bob” Schmidt.

Jean was a loving father to two children; Chris Brenon and wife Stephanie, and daughter, Gina Brenon; adoring grandpa to grandsons, Noah and Colt Brenon; brother to Donna Schmidt; wife of 37 years and mother of his children, Joan (Rubottom) Brenon; numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends also survive.
