Listen to Obituary

Jerry C. Bannister, 92, of Bonne Terre, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2026, at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis. He was born on Thursday, August 10, 1933, in St. Francois County, to the late Clarence Bannister and Dora Marie (Eaton) Thomure.

Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. Following his military service, he spent a few years at McDonnell Aircraft Corporation before embarking on a fulfilling career as a farmer, where he found joy in baling hay and raising cattle. His passion for the land was matched only by his appreciation for nature; he found great pleasure in watching birds, particularly owls, and remained keenly aware of current events throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife of 70 years, Velma Jeanette (Turley) Bannister; siblings, Lucy Forshee, Roy Bannister, Golda Clark, Christine Hardy, Bessie Sheppard, Earl Bannister, Erma Cook, Etta Holloway, Bobby Arndt, and Dean Bannister.

Most importantly, Jerry cherished his time with family. Jerry is survived by his loving children; Debbie Scoggin and husband, Marc and Alan Bannister; cherished grandchildren, Addie Scoggin, Denton (Samantha) Scoggin, Alaina Bannister; special friend, Linda Kearns; along with other family, friends and neighbors.
