John E. Forbes

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Edward Forbes, beloved husband, dedicated teacher, and cherished family member, who entered eternal rest on September 8, 2026, at the age of 86. He was born on September 28, 1939, in Bonne Terre, Missouri, to the late Orin “Frank” and Beulah Olive (Boyer) Forbes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Ellen Poor; siblings, Orin Zeno Forbes, Frank Boyer Forbes and wife Janet.

John was united in marriage to his beloved wife, Nancy (Marler) Forbes, where their shared faith laid the foundation for a remarkable union spanning 67 years. Together, they nurtured a loving home and raised a family that brought them immense joy. John is survived by his wife, Nancy; their sons, John “Mark” Forbes and wife Dawn, Robert “Rob” Michael Forbes and wife Diana; son-in-law, David Poor; and a legacy of grandchildren, Jessica Poor, Justus John Forbes and wife Emma, Dillon Forbes, Evan Forbes, Hanna Jo Stallard and husband Colton and two great-grandsons, Ian Martiniz, Arthur “Archie” Forbes and one on the way; sister, Lucy Purdy and husband Kevin, sister-in-law, Judy Forbes along with several nieces, nephews, family and friends.

John dedicated 30 years of his life to educating young minds, receiving his Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education from the University of Missouri and his Master's degree in Math Education from Northeast Missouri State University. His teaching journey began in the Van-Far School District and flourished over 27 years at the Pattonville School District, where he inspired countless students. As a proud lifetime member of several educational organizations, including the National Educational Association and the Missouri State Teachers Association, John remained dedicated to the field of education even after his retirement. John was a member of First Baptist Church of St. John.

 Beyond the classroom, John found joy in the great outdoors. His love for gardening both vegetables and flowers brought beauty to his home, especially through his treasured roses. He was a devoted fan of Cardinal Baseball, women's college basketball, and he faithfully followed Mizzou sports. In quieter moments, he enjoyed challenging himself with sudoku puzzles.

Visitation will be held at C.Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home in Bonne Terre, Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 9:30 AM until the time of service at 11:30 AM. Mark Forbes will be officiating. Interment will follow at Germania Cemetery in Terre du Lac. Memorials may be directed to Providence Baptist Church, 539 State Highway 47, Bonne Terre, MO 63628.

John’s spirit will forever be a source of inspiration, and his joy for life will remain in the hearts of those who loved him. Let us come together in celebration of a remarkable man and a life well-lived.
