John Alfred Jones of Ironton, Missouri passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends on July 9, 2025. He was born December 16, 1973 in Farmington, Missouri the son of the late Alfred Harold and Betty Jean (Warren) Jones. He was 51 years old. John was a 1992 graduate of Arcadia Valley High School. Upon graduation he attended the University of Missouri at Rolla where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a Philosopy minor. He then attended the University of Missouri at Columbia and obtained a Master of Library Science (M.L.S.). John worked as the Head of Technical Services for Ozark Regional Library for twenty-five years until his health forced him to retire. He loved his job and was a very dedicated employee. John loved language and storytelling. His love of language was exemplified by his proficiency with proofreading, his very exact use of words, and his teaching himself the basics of the Japanese language in his spare time during his college days. His love for storytelling was reflected in his love for narrative games, his writing, his participation in a long-standing book club of close friends, and his work with the Arcadia Valley Theatre Guild. These loves extended into his work, where he could both help people find stories to uplift themselves or to rewrite their own narratives, and to help people understand the language of computers so that they were better able to work with modern technology. John leaves behind his twin brother, Joseph Jones of Columbia, Missouri, his brother, Harold Jones and wife, Sheila of Yelm, Washington, and his three sisters: Treva Cloin of Ironton, Missouri, Carla Turner of Pilot Knob, Missouri, and Shirley Marler and husband, Jim of Arcadia, Missouri, thirteen nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews as well as a host of other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents John was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Jerry Turner. A celebration of John’s life will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Bryson Funeral Home Chapel. A visitation period will be held beginning at 9:00 a.m. Refreshments will be served at Ozark Regional Library in Ironton following the service.
