Larry Sumner

Larry Francis Sumner, 77, of Farmington, passed peacefully on September 21, 2022 surrounded by his loved ones at Cedarhurst of Farmington, Missouri after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Larry was born October 22, 1944 in St. Louis, the middle son of the late Dorothy Anna Winn and Lester Ernest Sumner.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Patricia Jean (Carver) Sumner; a son, David Sumner of DeSoto, MO; two daughters, Debra (Joel) Reed of DeSoto, MO; and Joy (Randy) Gilman of Imperial, MO; three siblings; Paul (Judy) Sumner, Danny Sumner and Gary Sumner all of Missouri; eight grandchildren: Jacob D. Sumner, Carlye M. Sumner, Grant C. Sumner, Kaci A. Reed, Kyle A. Reed, Kaden J. Reed, Keira G. Gilman, and Jackson F.G. Gilman.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one sibling, Lester Charles Sumner and one infant daughter, Terri Anna Sumner.

Larry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a beloved friend to many. He offered much leadership and guidance and was a pillar of strength to his church and community.  His work life contributions included a 33 year career at McDonnell Douglas, a volunteer firefighter at Goose Creek Community, and a service to many churches throughout his lifetime. Just as he served others in his journey, his family will continue to honor his legacy by living for Jesus Christ through the examples that he lived.

Visitation will be held Saturday, September 24, 2022 from 9:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 PM at First United Methodist Church in Park Hills with Mark Phillips officiating. Interment will follow at St. Francois Memorial Park in Bonne Terre. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and First United Methodist Church of Park Hills.
