LaVerne Holloman Dosing, 97, died October 30, 2019 in Naples, Florida. She was born June 23, 1922 in Hazard, Kentucky as the oldest child of Harry and Ruth (O’Heeron) Holloman. She was raised in Elvins, Missouri, where her brother Randall and sister Elise were born. She attended Washington University in St. Louis, married Elmo James (Mart) Dosing in 1942, and travelled with him in the United States while he was in the Army Air Corps. She worked in a variety of secretarial and bookkeeping positions during this time. After World War II they lived in Wisconsin, where there first two daughters, Linda and Diane were born. They eventually moved to Galesburg, Illinois where their third daughter Margo was born. LaVerne lived in Galesburg nearly 50 years, where she was an active member of the community. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and taught Sunday School. She was an avid and talented bridge player. She made many lifelong friends in Galesburg with whom she participated in a variety of charity and civic organizations. A part time resident of Naples, Florida since 1979, she moved there permanently in 2001, where she also had good friends. In later life she became a world traveler and visited every continent except Antarctica.
She was preceded in death by her husband Elmo James (Mart) Dosing, brother Randall Holloman and wife Marie, her sister Elise Ira and husband Leo, daughter Diane Dosing Courson, and niece Jo Ann (Dosing) Brown. She is survived by daughters Linda Dosing, Naples Florida, Margo Dosing Barker and husband Chris, San Lorenzo California, grandsons James and Robert Courson, Martin, Paul, and Samuel Barker, and great-grandchildren Alexandra and August Courson. She is also survived by her brother’s and sister’s children, Susan Jonsson and husband Lamarr, Ellynn Barnicle and husband Len, Steve Ira and wife Cindy, Beth Taylor and husband Andy, and their families. She is also survived by nieces Janet (Dosing) Copeland and Vicki Dosing and their families. Many other relatives were important in her life.
Visitation is at C.Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home in Desloge, Missouri, Saturday, November 9, 2019 from 12:00 pm, service at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at St. Francois Memorial Park in Bonne Terre.
