Lindell Ray Gowen

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lindell Ray Gowen, of Bonne Terre, Missouri, who departed this life peacefully on Thursday, August 6, 2026, just days shy of his 85th birthday. Born on Thursday, August 21, 1941, in French Village, Missouri, Lindell was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and friend whose life was marked by a deep commitment to his family, faith, and country.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Earnest Albert and Beulah Marie (Rosener) Gowen; sister, Bonnie and husband Reverend Robert Holland; along with numerous brother’s and sister’s in-law. 

Lindell proudly served in the United States Army and National Guard for 9 ½ years, achieving the rank of Specialist 5 (E5). His remarkable skills as a sharpshooter sniper placed him among the top in his platoon. He served during pivotal moments in history, including the Cuban crisis, showcasing his bravery and dedication to his nation. 

A member of the Bonne Terre Church of God, Lindell recently shared his heartfelt testimony, embodying a lifelong commitment to his faith. He found purpose and joy in the quiet moments spent in prayer and fellowship with his church community. Lindell’s unwavering spirit and determination were evident not just in his service but also in his career. For 65 years, he was a skilled logger and export businessman, leading an operation that continues to thrive today. He also cherished his time on his farm, where he raised cattle for 56 years, embracing the beauty of country life.

 Lindell was a man of grit and determination, devoted to hard work throughout his life. In his spare time, he found solace in the great outdoors, enjoying hunting and fishing, indulging his love for nature's tranquility. Yet, above all else, it was his family that gave his life meaning.

He is survived and cherished his time with his beloved wife of 65 years, Hazel Gowen, his son Reverend Jeffrey L. Gowen and wife Kimberly J. Gowen of Fort Madison, Iowa.; his daughters, Carla (Gowen) Brand and husband Reverend Ron Brand, of Springfield Missouri.; and Reverend Darla (Gowen) and Dr. Andréa Snavely, of Springfield Missouri.; eight grandchildren, Reverend J. Derek Gowen and wife Beth Gowen, Chandler L. Gowen and wife Allie Gowen, Danielle (Gowen) Gordon, Preston B. Gowen and wife Jaymee Gowen, Camille (Brand) Newbrand and husband Bradley Newbrand, Caleb Brand, Titus Snavely and wife Kyra Snavely, Tessa (Snavely) and husband Payton Cribbs; and fifteen great grandchildren, Bryant, Mason, Connor, Tyler, Anakin, Lance, Sebastian, Oaklyn, Declan, Braeden, Ryder, Hazel, Eloise, Wynonna and Ava; brother and sister in-laws, Raymond Skaggs and wife Leona, Bonnie Carmack and Paul Skaggs and wife Bonnie; in addition to three special aunts, Hazel McKenzie, Margie Reynolds and Joyce Thompson. And lastly, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

 Lindell’s loving family will carry his memory in their hearts and share the stories of his remarkable life for generations to come.

 Visitation will be held at C.Z. Boyer Funeral Home in Desloge on Thursday, August 13, 2026, from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Visitation will resume on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 9:00 A.M. until funeral service of 11:00 AM, with Lindell’s son officiating Reverend Jeffery L. Gowen. Interment and honors will follow service at 12:15 P.M. at St. Francois Memorial Park Cemetery in Bonne Terre, Missouri.

The family would like to sincerely thank everyone who reached out, called, texted, sent messages and kept them in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Your kindness, love and support, did not go unnoticed and we are truly grateful to each one of you.

 As we bid farewell to Lindell, we remember a life well-lived, an unwavering spirit, and a heart that embraced love and service. He will be deeply missed, yet his memory will forever remain a source of strength and inspiration to all who knew him.
