Lorraine Edna Rice

Listen to Obituary
Lorraine Edna (Hicks) Rice went to be with her Lord and Savior early Monday morning, October 28, 2019. She was only 100 years and 233 days old, born in Roselle, Missouri on March 8, 1919. She was fond of saying that a neighbor, Clora Smith, said that “on the day you were born there was a snow on the ground and the peas were coming up.” Her mother Esta (Stall) Hicks and father Jesse Hicks had a farm in Roselle which Lorraine enjoyed with her brother (C.L. “Pete” Hicks) and two sisters (Boneta Rust and Vera Pogue Cramer). February 18, 1938 Lorraine married Earl Hudson Rice and they had three children: Joy Lynn, Charles Hudson and Donald Arthur. Earl passed away September 22, 2014. Anyone who knew Lorraine (including multiple grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren, and the multitude of other friends) knew she loved flowers. In bygone years she loved gardening (and won innumerable First Place Ribbons for produce and eggs). She was so thoughtful and caring. Even at 100 years old she never missed a birthday, sending cards and gifts, and donating to Boys Town, Easter Seals, Veterans groups, etc. She will be buried at Graniteview Cemetery where many of her family members are interred. She gave time, support and funds to support the upkeep of the Cemetery, and in lieu of flowers, sending memorials to the Cemetery (Alma Rice 345 East Reynolds, Ironton, MO 63650) would probably be her wish. CARD OF THANKS We wish to express our thanks and appreciation to all our friends who were so kind and sympathetic during the loss of our dear mother. To all who sent food, flowers or helped in any way, we are so grateful. May God’s richest blessings be yours. Joy (Rice) and Ernie Robbs Charles and Cheri Rice Don and Sharon Rice (The CARD OF THANKS basically is verbatim of what Mom and her family in 1960 wrote when her dad died. We felt the words and sentiment they chose could not be improved upon).
