Madonna Thomas Ransom, a beloved member of the Farmington community, passed away peacefully at her home on October 25, 2025, at the age of 92. Born in Elvins, MO on February 25, 1933, the daughter of the late Elba (Hulsey) and Clarence E. Thomas. She is also preceded in death by her loving husband, Jimmy D. Ransom, in January 2021. They were married 70 years.
Madonna is survived by daughters, Denise Ransom of Farmington, Melodie Ransom of Peachtree Corners, GA, and Gina (Greg) Finch of Raymore, MO. Grandson, Aaron Davis, and his twin daughters, Ella and Allee, and grandson, Austin (Veronica) Davis. Along with sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and dear friends.
Madonna was born into a large family of three brothers, Darrell, Paul, and Gary Thomas, and four sisters, Beulah Mauk, Eula Mae Gruhala, Marlyn Mauk and Helen Govreau, all deceased.
Madonna was a member of the Esther Baptist Church and rejoiced in singing in the choir. She loved growing flowers, gardening, canning vegetables, sewing, cooking, baking, and square dancing with her favorite partner, Jim. Madonna enjoyed antiquing and watching the St Louis Cardinals play ball, with her best friend and adoring husband, Jim. They traveled often to visit Melodie during her assignments in several states, preferably in Florida, where Madonna loved the beaches. Her treasured memories though were the times she spent with her grandsons and her great-granddaughters.
Madonna graduated from Esther High School in 1951. That is where she met Jim. She was on the school volleyball team and enjoyed playing softball through her early adult life. Madonna became ambidextrous from various childhood injuries. Her nickname was "Tommy." She developed and became talented in the art of calligraphy, using either hand.
Madonna held several jobs throughout her lifetime. She was a pharmacy tech at Mineral Area Hospital for many years. And in charge of public relations for the local McDonald's restaurants. She annually coordinated the Salvation Army "Bell Ringers", and various public events; getting Ronald McDonald to fly into Farmington in his helicopter. Ronald drove his McD's convertible in Country Days parades for several years. Madonna initiated grade school events, where Happy Meals were enjoyed by children, both young and old. Madonna helped to coordinate the Trail of Tears Tribute Ride in the leadbelt area. In 1995 the Farmington Regional Chamber of Commerce awarded Madonna "Citizen of the Year", for her dedication and serving the community.
She enjoyed helping those in need throughout St. Francois Co., delivering Meals on Wheels with Jim for more than 15 years. Madonna never met a stranger. Jim could finish their delivery route in half the time when she did not accompany him. Madonna (and Jim) were also known for keeping abreast of current events, staying active in their civic duties, and campaigning to help friends in their political campaigns, no matter their party affiliation.
We wish to offer special thanks to Sue Landers, caregiver, and to Madonna's Legacy Hospice team members, for their love and patient care. Madonna adored and appreciated each of them.
Our Mom and Dad left us with great work ethics. They were amazing parents and grandparents.
