Mahayla Elizabeth Smith

Listen to Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mahayla Elizabeth Smith, who left us unexpectedly on Monday, August 3, 2026, at the age of 24. Mahayla was born on Wednesday, December 19, 2001, in Festus, MO, and spent her life in Valles Mines, MO.

Mahayla was a cherished daughter of Tina (Smith) and stepfather William Dorris, a beloved sister to Aaron Courtouise and Kody Lindsey. Mahayla was also a devoted mother to her young son, Axell House, who was the light of her life. She also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

Mahayla was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother Phyllis Brooks, great grandparents Walter and Alice Wells, aunt, Tammy Moore, great Uncle, Brian Wells and 2nd cousin, Jordon Wells. Mahayla approached life with enthusiasm and grace. She was passionate about the simple joys that life offered, from collecting seashells at the beach to nurturing her backyard flock of chickens. Those who knew her will remember her warmth as she embraced every opportunity to cook and cultivate her garden, Mahayla had a thirst for knowledge and an adventurous spirit, remaining open to learning new things and exploring the world around her. Mahayla's kindness and vibrant energy left an indelible mark on everyone she met, and her spirit will continue to live on through her family. Though Mahayla’s time with us was far too brief, her legacy of love and vitality will forever be a part of our lives.

Surrounded by the love of family, a private celebration of Mahayla’s life will be held to honor the beautiful memories, love and joy she shared with those closest to her. The family is deeply grateful for the kindness, prayers, love and support during this time of loss.
