Mrs. Martha Sokol Ray of Farmington (& formerly of Kirkwood, MO.,) passed away Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at her Farmington Presbyterian Manor residence, at the age of 92 years, 11 months & 4 days. Martha was born Dec.3, 1915, in Chicago, IL., to Louis & Marie 'Lorenze' Sokol. She was preceded-in-death by her husband, Thomas L. Ray, Sr., and 1 brother, Louis Sokol.
Martha was a active member of Grace Episcopal Church in Kirkwood; graduated 2nd in her class @ Univ. of Chicago School of Business, Phi Beta Kappa. Following graduation she worked in Chicago & New York's Wall Street. In 1942 she married Thomas L. Ray, USNR. After WWII, he obtained a position with Mercantile Trust Co. & they moved to St. Louis. She was a founding member of the Second Fiddle, benefiting the St. Louis Symphony & later volunteered at the Scholarshop. She was an active member of the Junior League. Martha was loved by many & was a shining example with her grace, wit & intelligence.
Martha was the Mother of Judge Thomas L. (& Linda) Ray, of Farmington; John S. (& Sue) Ray, of Napa, CA; Nancy M. Ray, of Deerfield, NH; Sarah E. Ray, of St. Louis and Richard L. (& Missey) Ray, of Fenton, MO. Also Grandmother of 6: Sarah M. Ray; Tema Farber; Haley Ray; Leah Farber; Kelsey Ray & Bobby Ray.
