Mary Fortner of Fredericktown, Missouri, passed away March 11, 2026, at the age of 81 years old. She was born on July 30,1944, in Fredericktown, Missouri. She was the daughter of the late Alfred Hob Wagner and Louise (Anthony) Wagner-Stromik.
Mary Lou graduated high school and went on to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. She loved to read, watch old westerns on tv, and sit on her porch. The thing she loved the most was spending as much time as possible with her family.
In addition to her parents, Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Denver Eugene Fortner, two brothers; John Wagner and Ralph Wagner; and a sister; Beulah Payne.
Mary is survived by her sister Barbara (Mike) Thomasson, her loving children, Melanie (Gregg) Welden, Barbara Fortner, and Denver Fortner Jr.; grandchildren, Whitney (Shane) Crites, Aaron Wasson, and Myranda (Caleb) Brown; and two great-grandchildren, Bennett and Clara Crites. Several nieces and nephews and other family and friends also survive.
Visitation will be held at the C.Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home-Wilson Chapel in Fredericktown on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM, officiated by Pastor Shane Crites. Interment will follow at Christian Cemetery in Fredericktown. Memorial made be made to the Madison County Senior Center, 107 Spruce St, Fredericktown, MO, United States, Missouri.
Arrangements are under the direction of C.Z. Boyer & Son - Wilson Chapel.
