Mary Ellen Morehead

Listen to Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Ellen Morehead at the age of 89, who departed this life on Wednesday, July 1, 2026. Born on Saturday, November 7, 1936, Mary was the daughter of the late William and Ollie (Kessinger) Pearson.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Dallas Glenn Morehead, and sons, Dallas Morehead Jr., Scott Morehead, and Danial Morehead.

Mary worked as a paraprofessional for the South Iron School District for 17 years and had many hobbies. She enjoyed having sleepovers with her grandchildren and reading to them during “Storytime” and telling childhood stories, playing cards and dice, doing word searches, putting together puzzles, watching movies, and sewing. She also enjoyed cooking, baking—especially everyone’s favorite chocolate chip cookies, planting flowers, and going on walks. She often made crafts with her grandchildren and took them on walks, picking wildflowers or finding rocks and fossils along the way. She was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren, her greatest joy of all was spending time with her family.

Mary Ellen had so many special qualities. She was a kind, caring, generous, and giving person and never met a stranger. She would strike up a conversation with anyone and was always willing to lend a helping hand. If anyone stopped by to visit, and many visitors did, she always made sure they had something to eat and drink and were comfortable in whatever ways were needed. She was always checking on family and friends when they had something extra going on, to make sure they were okay and would do whatever she could to help them. Whoever was around Mary Ellen always felt her love and compassion.

She is survived by her loving children: Allen and wife Love Jane Morehead, Melody Moss, Caroline and husband Dan Morehead, and Ceclie and husband Larry Goodman; grandchildren: Allen Dale (Kayla), Windy (Zach), Jesse, Troy, Love Jane, Andrea (Jason), Alicia (Mike), Andy (Sarah), Allison, Jason (Sam), Carly (Jon), Elijah (Molly), Tabatha, Benjamin, Mick (Marilx), Aden, Jaden, Carsen, and Makenna: 32 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

A private celebration of life will take place at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of C.Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Homes – Bryson Chapel in Pilot Knob, Missouri.
