Melvin Lee Sikes, age 88 passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at his home in Fredericktown, Missouri. He was born on April 27, 1929 in Fredericktown, a son of Elmer Earl Sikes and Jannie Elberta (Bollinger) Sikes. On May 28, 1951 in Lawton, Oklahoma he was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Carlton, she survives in Fredericktown.
Other survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law - Stan & Neus Sikes of Cordova, Tennessee and Scott & Becky Sikes of Fredericktown; one sister - Helen Nelson of Desloge; five grandsons - Dustin, Michael, Joaby, Alex and Jake; two great-grandsons - Sully and Everett and nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Elmer and Elvin Sikes.
Melvin was a United States Army Veteran, he had worked as a butcher at the IGA grocery store in Fredericktown; he was a member of the Farmington, Missouri VFW and enjoyed restoring tractors, riding horses and was an avid sports fan.
Visitation will be from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m., on Friday, January 19, 2018 at Wilson Funeral Home in Fredericktown. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Wilson Funeral Home with Bro. Lindell Sikes officiating. Interment will be in the Christian Cemetery in Fredericktown with full military honor's under the direction of the Missouri Military Honor's team..
