Merrilyn “Dietra” Massie, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on Sunday, September 17, 1944, in Bonne Terre, Missouri, she dedicated her life to her family and community, leaving a legacy of love and kindness that will be deeply missed.
Merrilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Homer Allen and Hazel Genevieve (Peppers) Emery.
Dietra was a proud member of the First Baptist Church of Bonne Terre, where she cherished her church and its congregation, viewing them as an extended family. She poured her heart into her faith and took joy in serving others, often giving generously to organizations like St. Jude's Children’s Research Hospital, which held a special place in her heart.
Dietra was known for her strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit. Beyond her professional pursuits, she was a passionate crafter, an avid photographer, and a devoted collector of all sorts of treasures.
Above all, Dietra's greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her loving daughter, Lora Curry, and her son-in-law, Joel Curry. Her cherished granddaughter, Tiffany Sieve, and her husband, Erik, along with her three adoring great-grandchildren—Emma, Justin, and Isabelle "Izzy" Sieve—were the light of her life. Dietra’s unwavering love and support for her family were felt by all, and her nurturing spirit will live on in each of their hearts.
Visitation will be held at C.Z. Boyer Funeral Home in Bonne Terre, on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Visitation will resume Thursday, May 7, 2026 from 9:00 A,M. until service time of 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Alan David officiating. Friends and family are invited to gather to celebrate Dietra’s incredible journey and the immense love she shared with all who knew her. Deitra will be laid to rest privately at Bonne Terre Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or the First Baptist Church of Bonne Terre in Dietra's memory.
As we reflect on the profound impact Dietra had on our lives, let us remember her as a remarkable woman who loved deeply and gave freely. Her legacy of compassion and generosity will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have known her.
