Michael "Mick" Dickus

It is with great joy and heartfelt remembrance that we announce the passing of Michael Hughes Dickus, affectionately known as Mick, who left us on July 4, 2025, at the age of 48. Born on May 10, 1977, in St. Louis, Mick’s spirit was as vibrant as the natural world he cherished.

Mick was a larger-than-life individual, whose love for nature was only rivaled by his passion for sharing his knowledge. An avid outdoorsman, he embraced every season with pursuits such as hunting deer, dove, duck, and turkeys, as well as foraging for wild mushrooms and other natural edibles. His commitment to sustainable practices was evident in his work as a beekeeper, where he not only raised bees with great care but also took immense joy in teaching others the art of beekeeping.

Inspired by his mother’s Southern hospitality and principles, Mick masterfully cultivated organic produce, earning recognition in St. Louis’s “Sauce” magazine as he shared his bountiful harvests with esteemed chefs across the city. A talented cook, he infused his meals with love and creativity, reflecting his warm-hearted nature.

Mick’s legacy is one of generosity, kindness, and a boundless enthusiasm for life. He had an incredible ability to connect with those around him, always eager to share his insights and encourage others to embrace the beauty of the world.

Mick is survived by his family he loved so much, especially his wife, together for 25 years, he always bragged about, Rachel Leigh (Phelps) Dickus; three children, Hannah Leigh Dickus, Ella Serene Dickus and Michael “Eli” Dickus (the fourth generation to carry the name Michael Dickus); one grandchild, River Martin Hulsey; his adoring parents, Michael and Patricia (Rodery) Dickus; and half-sister, Lisa Alexander. Mick was preceded in death by one half-brother, Steve Hubble.
