It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Michael Louis Hasenstab Sr., age 79, who left us peacefully surrounded by family, on Tuesday, August 18, 2026. Michael was born on Wednesday, October 2, 1946, in Belleville, Illinois, to the late Charles and Lillie (Tieman) Hasenstab. He lived a life full of purpose and compassion, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.

Michael first dedicated 10 years of his career to teaching grade school at St. Clare in O’Fallon, Illinois, and Holy Family in Cahokia, Illinois. He later devoted over 35 years to serving others as a Human Resources Director at healthcare facilities throughout the Southwest. With a bachelor’s degree and a heart for helping others, Michael touched countless lives through his compassion, dedication, and commitment to excellence. He is cherished by his beloved wife, Elaine Hasenstab, and his son, Michael Hasenstab, Jr. and daughter, Tara Hasenstab, who will carry forward his legacy of kindness and integrity.

Michael is also survived by his extended family, including brothers David (Katie) Hasenstab and Gerard (Barbara) Hasenstab, as well as his adored grandchildren: Brandon (Malia), Alysa (Jake), Chance, McKinzey (Jarrett), and Raimie (Jake). Alongside them are his great-grandchildren: Chasity, Trevor, Bowen, Waylon, Jackson, and Aelita, who filled his life with joy. In addition are several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his in-laws, Ray and Charlene Wright; his brother, Chuck Hasenstab; and his sister-in-law, Patricia Hasenstab.

A man of many passions, Michael loved to travel and was an avid photographer with a deep appreciation for history and baseball. His warm spirit and generous heart endeared him to many, forging friendships that transcended generations. In honor of Michael’s life, a Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held October 2, 2026, at La Petite Salle, 19W. School St., Bonne Terre, Mo 63628 from 11am-5pm. We invite all who had the pleasure of knowing him to join in this heartfelt tribute to a remarkable man.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, causes that were close to his heart. Michael Louis Hasenstab Sr. will be deeply missed but will forever be remembered for his unyielding love and devotion to his family, his compassionate service to others, and his vibrant zest for life.
