Monroe Clay Brooks Jr. of Lesterville, Missouri passed away November 10, 2023 in St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 85 years. He was born January 13, 1938 in St. Louis, Missouri the son of the late Monroe “Clay” Brooks Sr. and Loretta (Jackson) Brooks. Monroe was the father of three children: Sandra Gail Sanders and Richard Clay Brooks who both preceded him in death and Steven Monroe Brooks and wife, Kim of Lesterville, Missouri. He was a brother to Mary Slaughterback. Five grandchildren survive: Amanda Sutton (Jason), Kelly Hurston (Scott), Tyler Brooks, Katie Brooks, and Shannon Brooks as do five great grandchildren: Madison, Morgan, Livy, and Bayle as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Monroe worked for thirty-eight years at Proctor and Gamble in St. Louis until he retirement. He worked as a pipefitter, machinist, welder, at anything they needed. They would train him, and he could do anything. After retiring he moved to Lesterville where he stayed busy. He enjoyed hunting in his younger years but for the last decade he enjoyed watching deer rather than hunting. He liked working on cars and going for drives to look at the scenery. He also enjoyed mowing and keeping his place looking like a well-cared for park. He was very meticulous. Monroe did not sit around – he worked constantly and stayed busy. He will be missed by his family and friends. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. from Bryson Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will be in Lesterville Memorial Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
