With a heart as vast as the fields she loved and hands that rarely rested, Patricia Mary Wofford lived a life defined by faith, service, and devotion to others. Born on September 3, 1930, in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, Patricia grew up in a large, loving family where hard work and deep values were a way of life. She was the daughter of Joseph Edward Ogden (1895–1973) and Rose Alice Fry Ogden (1905–1981), and one of eleven siblings in a family rooted in resilience. Patricia spent her life giving — to her family, her community, and anyone in need. Whether stirring a pot of her famous homemade gravy or kneading scratch biscuits for a crowd gathered around her table, Patricia’s kitchen was always filled with warmth, laughter, and love. She had a gift for caregiving and provided compassionate nursing support to many, helping others heal not just in body, but in spirit. Her love of farming ran deep, and alongside her husband Sidney, she cultivated vibrant gardens whose vegetables earned ribbons at local fairs — just one of many quiet triumphs in a life filled with humble achievement. And her scratch-made blackberry cobbler was legendary! Faith was Patricia’s guiding light. A devout woman, she attended church faithfully and lived her beliefs in action — providing meals to neighbors, opening her home to those in need, and offering a soft place to land for anyone seeking comfort. She carried her strength with grace, never asking for recognition, simply doing what needed to be done.
She married Raymond Calbreath (1927–2003), with whom she raised eight children. Her devotion to them was steadfast and fierce, her moral compass steady, and her sacrifices countless. Later, she found an enduring love with Sidney Wofford (1936–2019). Together, they shared 47 years of marriage, memories, and miles — traveling the country as long-haul truckers and returning home to the life they built with their hands and hearts. In addition to Raymond and Sidney, Patricia is preceded in death by her grandchildren Jeremy Michael Calbreath (1984–2016), Jamie Lynn Gebhardt (1981–2022), and Richard Kenneth Gebhardt (1983–2022), as well as her sons-in-law Raymond Borders and Richard “Dick” Allan Black. She also honors the memory of her many siblings who went before her: Odell Otto Ogden, Joseph Edward Ogden, Marcella "Sally" Rose Ogden, Violet Magdalen Ogden, Arline Mae Ogden, Martin Deporres Ogden, Francoise Therese Ogden, Margaret Mary Ogden, and James “Jimmy” Michael Ogden. She is lovingly survived by her sister, Roberta Ogden Richards, her cousin Anna June Midgett, and many nieces and nephews who were touched by her care and kindness. Patricia’s legacy continues in the lives she raised, loved, and nurtured: Her children — Mary Helen Meyer (Grant), Carol Borders, Dennis Calbreath, Paul Calbreath (Cheri), Donna Gittus (Doug), David Calbreath (Sherrie), Patti Morehouse (Doug), and Deb Black — carry forward her strength and values. Her grandchildren — Tamila Timm (Karl), Jennifer Sprigg (Mike), Jeffrey Meyer, Michael Borders, Samantha Borders Ayala, Daniel Calbreath, Corinna Quick (Jonah), Bob Calbreath (Sara), Chris Calbreath (Stacy), Angela Casey (Kyle), Morgan Kohlwes (Brian), Mallory Gittus, Jerica Boucher (JP), Joshua Calbreath, and many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren — who carry her spirit into future generations. She is also lovingly remembered by her stepson, Thomas S. Wofford, and the three foster children she welcomed into her heart and home. She loved her neighbors as her own family and appreciated all of the love that they shared while sitting on the front porch. Each life she touched is a living testament to her generosity, her grace, and her boundless love.
Patricia never took an airplane ride, but her life was filled with remarkable journeys — through towns and highways, across gardens and dinner tables, and into the hearts of all who knew her. She truly lived her dash, filling every moment between birth and death with faith, love, labor, laughter, and legacy. She will be remembered always for her giving heart, her steady faith, and a life beautifully lived — and deeply loved by many.
