Paul Vernis Hawkins of Ironton, MO passed away April 8, 2014 at his residence at the age of 82 years. He was born August 31, 1931 in Black, MO the son of Ollie and Lydia (Black) Hawkins. On September 30, 1951 he was united in marriage to Ira Ann Lewis who survives. To this union four children were born; Paula and husband Ronnie Warren of Annapolis, MO, Lisa Brooks of Ironton, MO, Gary Hawkins of LaMonte, MO, and Rebecca and Sonny Bradshaw of Columbia, MO. Also surviving is his sister, Opal Brooks of Pilot Knob, MO, grandchildren; Scott (Sloane) Warren, Suzi (Chris) Lorenz, Gynnah Gaudreau, Ryan Brooks, Corey Brooks, and great grandchildren; Clayton, Addie, Taylor, Jordan, Sawyer, Logan, and Leilah as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Paul was preceded in death by two brothers; Elvin Hawkins and Bud Winingar and three sisters; Sarah Green, Ruby Tripp and Arlene Hawkins. Paul was a 1950 graduate of Ironton High School. Paul worked as a rural mail carrier and retired from the United States Postal Service. He served his country in the United States Army and was a member of First Baptist Church of Ironton. Paul enjoyed refereeing basketball and he did this for thirty plus years. He also coached Little League softball and baseball. In addition to these activities Paul managed State Movie Theatre for many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
