Randel Murriel Farmer, 85, of DeSoto, passed away Thursday, November 22, 2018, peacefully in his home, after a long battle with cancer. Randel was born March 24, 1933, the tenth of eleven children, to William Randel and Grace Olive (Tallent) Farmer.
Randel, “Pork” graduated from Flat River High School in 1951 and served in the Marine Corps. from 1953-1955. He held the rank of Corporal and did one tour of duty in Japan immediately following the Korean War. Randel worked for 38 years as a lineman and troubleman at Union Electric until his retirement on March 31, 1993. He was a 60-year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, and a member of the VFW, Post #1831.
Randel married Shermadeen Green on November 6, 1954. A devoted husband, father, grandpa and friend, Randel will be dearly missed. He enjoyed fixing things, was an outdoorsman, and played a mean poker game. Randel loved fishing and taking his grandkids for boat rides around the lake. He was a strong man both physically and in character. Always fair-minded, honest, hard-working, generous, a great provider and good steward of all his blessings.
Randel is survived by four children, Cheryl (Ralph) Duren of Jefferson City, Rebecca Farmer of Roanoke, Virginia, Randy Farmer of Valles Mines, and Angela Farmer of DeSoto; 10 grandchildren, Jeremy (Erin) Duren of Arnold, Justin (Chris) Duren of Jefferson City, Julia (Horace) Salik of Ogden, Utah, Jessica Duren and Jenna Duren of Jefferson City, Rachel Farmer, Joel Farmer and Laynee Farmer, of DeSoto, Aron (Samantha) Farmer of Ft. Leonard Wood, and Emily Farmer of Roanoke, Virginia; and 18 great grandchildren.
Randel is preceded in death by his wife, Shermadeen; his parents, William and Grace Farmer; and siblings Rhonda McGuire, Laverne Davis, Ray Farmer, Fay Stringer, Grace Irene Harris, John Farmer, Clyde Farmer, Ruth Puckett, William Farmer, and Ruby Walker.
Visitation will be held at C.Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home in Desloge, Sunday, November 25, 2018, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The service will be held in the C.Z. Boyer and Son Chapel, Monday, November 26, 2018 at 3:00 PM with Pastor Bradford Laubinger officiating. Interment will follow at Parkview Cemetery in Farmington.
In lieu of flowers, Randel requests donations to be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital.
