Randel Raymond Portell, a beloved dad, grandpa and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at the age of 75. Born on Tuesday, March 27, 1951, in Potosi, Missouri, Randel spent many of his years cultivating his passions and shared his life with those he loved.
Randel retired as a machinist at Flat River Glass; beyond his profession, Randel was a true treasure hunter at heart. He found joy in collecting coins, stamps, arrowheads, and beautiful glass pieces, endlessly curious and fascinated by the stories each item held. His adventurous spirit extended outdoors, where he delighted in hunting, fishing, camping, and simply tinkering in his workshop. A green thumb at heart, Randel spent countless hours tending to his garden, nurturing his beloved Canna flowers and enjoying the tranquility that nature offered.
Randel enjoyed attending Civil War reenactments, where he embraced history and shared a bond with fellow enthusiasts. He leaves a legacy of curiosity, passion, and love that will forever resonate with those who knew him.
Randel was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Lucille (Bone) Portell; his five brothers and one sister, Bobby Portell, Donald Portell, Charles Portell, Stanley Portell, Francis Portell and Maxine Battreal.
He is survived by his three cherished children, Dustin Portell and wife Anne, Mandy (Portell) Ross, and husband Nathan, and Jordan Portell; two stepchildren that were special to Randel, Tim Portell and Cindy Stacey; three dear grandchildren, William, Ila and Eleanor; former wife and mother to Jordan, Mary Portell. Along with several nieces, nephews, family members and dear friends.
Visitation will be held at C.Z. Boyer Funeral Home in Desloge on Friday, October 30, 2026, from 11:00 A.M. until service time of 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Mike Barton, Sr. officiating. Entombment will follow at St. Francois Memorial Park Cemetery in Bonne Terre.
As we gather to honor Randel’s life, we celebrate the memories, love, and laughter he brought into our lives. He will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
