Rhonda Joann Hulsey

Rhonda Joann (Mahurin) Hulsey, 89, of Gumbo and Desloge passed away into the arms of her Lord and Savior surrounded by her loving family on Friday, September 19,2025.

Rhonda was born on July 22, 1936, on Owl Creek just outside of Gumbo to Louis “Doc” and Goldie (Wood) Mahurin.

At the young age of 9, the family moved into Gumbo where times were tough, but love was always present. Rhonda attended school in Gumbo where she created many lifelong friends. This is also where she met the love of her life Arthur J. Hulsey, and went on to happily marry on October 1, 1951. To this union, were born 4 loving children Dale, Roxanne, Robin, and Randy.

Throughout the years, Rhonda lived life to the fullest while enjoying her family. She enjoyed cooking (and was great at it!), gardening, crocheting, reading, quilting, picking wild greens with her mom, and the many hours spent playing cards with her beloved brother and sister-in-law Doc and Pat Mahurin.

Her greatest love in life would be none other than enjoying time spent with her family. Early family life with Art, consisted of working on the farm, trips to Big River, and creating a wonderful and loving home for her family. Some of her fondest moments in life included becoming a loving mother-in-law to Carol, Dave, Jeff, and Julie. Life would also bless her with 12 grandchildren, and 24 great grandchildren who all regarded her as the best grandma and granny ever! Together, her and grandpa always took great pride in supporting their grandkids and great grandkids in various activities.

Rhonda is survived by her three children: Roxanne Grimwood (Dave), Robin Caldwell (Jeff), Randy Hulsey (Julie); loving daughter in law Carol Hulsey; 12 grandchildren: Jeremy Hulsey, Bryan Hulsey (Mindy), Josh Hulsey (April), Brent Hulsey (Angie), Jarrod Caldwell (Anna), Jacob Caldwell, Krissy Ringwald (Adam), Melissa Naeger (Aaron), Emma Caldwell (Danny), Eli Grimwood (Hannah), Jenna Lacy (Kyle), Jessica Flanagan (Ethan); 24 great grandchildren: Megan (Brian), Emily (Mark), Rynna, Easton, Miley, Colin, Lauren, Dylan, Brittany, Ryan, Colton, Austin, Lily, Hailey, Kacy, Noah, Maggie, Caroline, Jase, Iris, Vivienne, Koen, Norah, Hank. Sister-in-law Pat Mahurin, special friends (Lisa and Stephanie) and neighbors along with numerous extended family members and close friends.

Rhonda is preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years Arthur Hulsey, her oldest son Dale, her parents, and brother Norman “Doc” Mahurin.

Per Rhonda’s wishes there will be a private family graveside. The family appreciates your love, kindness, and support during this difficult time.
