Dr. Richard Carl Holmes of Ironton, Missouri passed away December 24, 2018 at the age of 87 years. He was born November 23, 1931 in Rolla, Missouri the son of the late Richard Groves and Amy Catherine (Wilkinson) Holmes. On June 28, 1958 he was united in marriage to Anna Marie Nichols who survives. To this union seven children were born; Catherine Holmes of Farmington, Missouri, Carl Holmes who preceded him in death, Willa Frattini and husband, John of St. Louis, Missouri, Paul Holmes of Overland Park, Kansas, Richie Holmes of Columbia, Missouri, Amy Beaton and husband, John of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and John Holmes of Berlin, Germany. Also surviving are six grandchildren and one great grandson as well as a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and son, Richard was also preceded in death by his brother, Samuel Price Holmes. Dr. Holmes was a 1955 graduate of the Washington University School of Dentistry. He worked as a dentist in the Arcadia Valley for forty-one years, retiring in 1996. He was a member of Ste. Marie du Lac Catholic Church, St. Vincent de Paul, and the Knights of Columbus. Dr. Holmes also was a member of the Arcadia Valley Elks Lodge serving as Past Exalter Ruler. He was a member of the Arcadia Valley Eagles, a past member of the Arcadia Valley Community Betterment, Rotary Club, the Do-Si-Do Square Dancers, the Pilot Knob Water Board, 67 Gun Club and the NRA. He was also a member of several poker and pinochle card groups.
