Richard Leroy "Whitey" Herbst

Richard Leroy “Whitey” Herbst, 83, of Farmington passed away October 12, 2023 at Parkland Health Center in Farmington. He was born September 30, 1940 in St. Louis to the late Denis and Irene (Wichman) Herbst. Richard worked for St. Francois County as a heavy equipment operator for 34 years. He could drive anything you gave him keys to. He loved camping and being outdoors. He also loved steam locomotives and would travel just to watch one come through. He enjoyed driving around town and making the trip to Ste. Genevieve to watch the river traffic.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one sister, Doris Eaves Sloan; one brother, Eugene Herbst and wife, Jean; two brothers-in-law, Ed Eaves and Frank Helberg; one nephew, Johnny Eaves.
Richard is survived by his four children, Carmen Moore and husband Larry of Farmington, Cynthia Harlen and husband Holt of Houston, TX, Richard Herbst II (Stacy Williams) of Farmington, Matt Herbst and wife Shannon of Farmington; five grandchildren, Hunter, Hayden, Austin, Emily and Olivia; one sister, Jacklyn Helberg of St. Louis, MO; one brother-in-law, Chester Sloan.
A memorial visitation will be held at the C.Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home – Taylor Chapel in Farmington on Friday, October 27, 2023 from 10:00 AM until the time of a memorial service at Noon. Memorial donations may be made to Dravet Syndrome Foundation, Inc. at PO Box 3026
